Getting Ready
Sit in a circle on the floor with your group. You’re about to create a magical rainstorm using just your bodies!
Step-by-Step
- Wind (Rub Your Hands Together): Start by rubbing your hands together slowly. This is the wind starting to blow.
- Raindrops (Tap One Finger on Your Palm): Tap a single finger on your palm, mimicking the first few raindrops falling from the sky.
- More Raindrops (Tap All Four Fingers): Tap all four fingers on your palm to create the sound of many more raindrops falling.
- Heavy Rain (Full Out Clapping): Clap your hands together loudly as the rain starts to pour harder.
- Thunder (Slap the Floor or Your Thighs): Slap the floor or your thighs to create the sound of thunder rumbling in the distance.
The Wave
The leader starts each activity, and as the sound moves around the circle, everyone follows the person to their left. Don’t switch until they do! When the sound returns to you, start a new activity to create another wave.
Storm Winds Down
Once you've reached a big crescendo, reverse the activities to calm the storm back down, ending with a gentle hand rub.
Final Touch
Finish in complete silence, reflecting on the sound you’ve created. What other noises could you add to make it more realistic? How could you use your body to create different environmental sounds?
